It's odd that Skype has yet to release a fully functional Skype app for Android but there are alternatives. Today Truphone released a new Android app (3.0) that allows you to make free Skype calls on your Android handset via Wi-Fi. The app also lets you call Google Talk users and make low-cost calls to landlines and mobiles using Truphone's own credit-based service. In addition to calls you can also send instant message to mates using MSN, Yahoo, Skype, Google Talk and AIM accounts. Last year Fring launched a similar app for Android handsets, which also lets you make Skype calls. Both apps are free to download from the Android Market.
