Manufacturers certainly like to choose odd names for some of their phones. Take the all new Sony Ericsson T715 for instance. It sounds like the model number for one of the killer robots from the Terminator films. Maybe they are trying to cash in on the presence of the new Terminator movie. But having heard some of the reviews for Terminator Salvation, we think not.
The T715 is not a robotic killing machine; instead it is a new super stylish slide phone from Sony Ericsson. Unlike recent announcements from the ailing manufacturer, the T715 is not an entertainment focused handset. Instead the T715 has various organiser functions to help keep your life in order. The smart desktop feature gives direct reminders of appointments and notes. It will even remind you of important birthdays using special animations. So you can no longer have any excuses for not remembering someone's birthday.
Another feature that makes the T715 an attractive proposition is the super fast 3G connection. This allows hassle free internet browsing in areas that have a good 3G signal. The T715 also has a fairly large 2.2" screen that should manage to show most websites in an actual readable format, which is a change from some mobiles. Sony Ericsson is promising that the screen will even be readable in direct sunlight, but then we've heard that from mobile phone manufacturers before.
In addition to 3G compatibility and the organiser, Sony Ericsson has also managed to cram a 3.2-megapixel camera into the T715's slim line frame. You could be forgiven for thinking that 3.2-megapixels is pretty average these days but Sony Ericsson are promising that you will be able to take shots even in dark lighting conditions.
The T715 does not have quite enough features to elevate it into smart phone territory. This might be a problem as we believe that users who want a great organiser, email and all the rest will simply opt for a Blackberry or an iPhone over a T715. So it will be interesting to see if Sony Ericsson can carve out a niche in the market place.
