Vodafone goes GaGa for music on Free Music Friday.

You don't get much for free these days, unless you are an MP and you want a new moat or a second mortgage. Thankfully for us Vodafone is giving everyone the chance to experience the buzz of getting something for nothing. Even if that something is an irritating piece of pop fluff by Lady GaGa.
Vodafone has marked the decision to launch DRM free tracks by offering customers the chance to download eight free songs from a preset selection. To be honest the free track list is purely aimed at 'the youth' or Big Brother contestants. Aside from the aforementioned Lady GaGa you can also choose to download a track from such musical luminaries as Tinchy Stryder and Daniel Merriweather. Now that is what we call living the dream.
Unfortunately you can only download any of the eight tunes for free over a 24 hour period, starting today. But the good news is that Vodafone has around 350,000 DRM free tracks available on its Vodafone Live portal. So even if you think that Poker Face is absolutely awful, you're bound to find something that you actually like.
Vodafone has decided that if you have already downloaded tracks previously you can download the DRM free version at no extra cost. So if you spent some money downloading your favourite tracks yesterday you should be able to get the DRM free version for nothing.
Tracks will now cost a fairly reasonable 49p each with albums costing £7.99. TechRadar has suggested that Vodafone will even be expanding the range of available tracks to over a million by the autumn, which should be enough to satisfy even the pickiest of music aficionados. Vodafone customers will be able to get tracks from their PC or over the air from their handset. We think getting rid of DRM is a logical move. It's farcical that you can buy a track and not use it how you want, so we hope that the other networks follow suit soon.
