Spearheading the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) revolution in the late 1990s, Palm brought out its first PalmPilot in 1996 and enjoyed success thanks to this range for some time. In 200x, Palm launched its first mobile phone range, the Treo, which is claims effectively created the smartphone market. Despite this, it was relatively unsuccessful and the Palm name fell out of mainstream use until 2009, when the launch of the Palm Pre revitalised the company. The first phone built on the Palm webOS platform, the Pre received very favourable reviews worldwide. Now widely recognised as a major smartphone contender, Palm continues to build its smart phone range as well as releasing some lower-end consumer products to widen its market.
