Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is the fastest four-door saloon on the planet

So, you think the BMW M3 Saloon is powerful? You poor, deluded fool. Have a gander at the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, a car so powerful it makes Ferraris look a bit weedy.

While most of the European motoring industry is busy downsizing engines, introducing turbos, increasing efficiency and generally wussing out, Dodge is grabbing its crotch and sticking two fingers to mother nature. It’s slammed a massive 6.2-litre V8 engine and supercharged the be-jeezus out of it to the point it produces a monstrous 707bhp.

So. Much. Power!
So. Much. Power!

It puts things into perspective that Lexus’ most powerful production V8, fitted to the Lexus RC F, produces a comparatively puny 450hp. Hell, even the Ferrari FF ‘only’ manages 660bhp.

With all that grunt, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds, knock off a quarter mile in 11 seconds dead and smash through the 200mph barrier, topping out at 204mph. We can’t think of any Euro saloons that go that fast.

Whether the Charger SRT Hellcat corners effectively is another issue altogether, but Dodge has fitted the thing with Pirelli P Zero tyres, adaptive, 3-mode sports suspension, and its biggest ever brakes: 15.4-inch discs.

The SRT Hellcat will go on sale in early 2015 priced at $62,000 (only about £37,000) but sadly there are no current plans to bring it to the UK.
