Suzuki iV-4 concept is a baby off-roader

Suzuki is no stranger to the mini SUV. After all, it gave us the LG series, Vitara, Jimny and then Grand Vitara. So it comes as almost no surprise the Japanese manufacturer has yet another one up its sleeves.

Introducing the iV-4, a compact SUV that gets its name from what it offers. The ‘i’ stands for individuality (ahem), the ‘V’ for vehicle and the ‘4’ for four-wheel drive ─ it’s all very simple, really.

Suzuki says the i-V4 will measure 4,215mm long, 1,850mm wide, 1,665mm tall and has a 2,500mm wheelbase. For comparison, the three-door Grand Vitara measures 4,005mm x 1810mm x 1,695mm, indicating the new SUV will be about the same size albeit a tad longer.

Inkeeping with these eco-oriented, penny-pinching times, Suzuki says the i-V4 will be lightweight and will deliver some of the lowest CO2 emissions in its class, although we’ve yet to hear what engines will power the thing.

Buyers will be able to make use of large diameter tyres and personalise exterior parts, colours and textures to compliment the nifty illuminated grille up front and that fetching Brilliant Turquoise Metallic paintjob.

To make certain you can drive over difficult terrain with ease, the 4×4 will include an ‘AllGrip’ system. We’re not yet sure how it will work or what it will do, but Suzuki assures us it represents the next generation of four-wheel drive ─ something that makes the i-V4 go “beyond a typical city SUV”.

We’re hoping the Suzuki i-V4 makes it to production relatively unchanged because we rather like the styling, particularly the colour-coded alloy wheel inserts and the sweeping lines. It’s a bit like a taller, stubbier Land Rover Evoque from certain angles, which is no bad thing for a car likely to cost a whole lot less.

Suzuki says it will bring the iV-4 production model to Magyar Suzuki in 2015. A release in Europe is planned. Until then, scroll on down for the piccies.
