2014 Mini Cooper Hatch images, UK price and specs

New Mini Cooper has a interactive central display, new engines and revised look.

The price and full details of the new Mini Cooper Hatch and Cooper S Hatch have been revealed. Expect to pay from £13,750 for the new model, which debuts new engines, a revised look and an interactive central display in the cockpit.

The new Mini Cooper Hatch is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than its predecessor, while the wheelbase has been extended by 28mm. Although still instantly recognisable as a Mini, you may notice new LED headlamps with circular LED daytime running lights have been added. A few subtle tweaks to the shape help it look less bulky and more purposeful.

Practicality has been improved. The rear bench seat offers 60:40 folding and the boot space has been increased by 30 per cent to 211 litres. The front seats are more adjustable and 23mm longer to improve comfort and support.

It would be difficult to miss the 8.8-inch TFT display located in the middle of the car, which is controlled by either a MMI Controller or MMI Touch ─ the latter offering touch-based gestures. The display takes care of infotainment, navigation and other vehicle-related information. Handily, an LED ring around the screen changes in colour and illumination. As you approach a turning you need to take, for instance, the lit-up area becomes smaller.

Three new engines make up a range of five different models. The Mini One has a 1.2-litre petrol with 102hp and 180Nm of torque, the Mini One D diesel has a 1.5-litre with 95hp and 220Nm of torque while the Mini Cooper S has a 2.0-litre with 192hp and 280Nm of torque. A six-speed gearbox is standard and a six-speed automatic can be specified on all engines.

The Mini Cooper D is the most frugal engine. In its larger 116hp Cooper D form it can manage 80.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 98g/km compared with the 135g/km.

Standard equipment includes electrically adjustable mirrors, air-conditioning, USB connectivity, Bluetooth, front fog lamps and an onboard computer. Optional extras include a Harman Kardon stereo, Park Distance Control, electrically heated and folding exterior mirrors, panoramic glass roof and heated front seats.

As previously stated the 2014 Mini Cooper Hatch starts at £13.750 for the One model rising to £16,450 for the Cooper D Hatch. At the top of the range is the £18,650 Mini Cooper S Hatch.
