Developer posts screenshots said to be of ‘iOS in the Car’.
Screenshots reportedly showing the ‘iOS in the Car’ in-car entertainment system (announced by Apple in 2013 at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) have surfaced online. Dublin-based developer Steven Troughton-Smith posted the offending images on Twitter.
The three images look to show the navigation aspect of the iOS in the Car system. One image shows a safety warning, while the other two feature Apple Maps. What’s interesting about the images is the layout. The user-interface appears reminiscent of iOS but with a few tweaks here and there ─ presumably to make it more usable in the car environment.
Apple is yet to confirm or deny the authenticity of the images (and probably never will), leaving us to ponder whether the screenshots of iOS in the Car are genuine.
Apple’s iOS in the Car is designed to let the user hook up their iPhone or iPad to a car and perform a variety of smartphone functions while driving.
According to the Apple website: “iOS in the Car seamlessly integrates your iOS device – and the iOS experience – with your in-dash system… Now you can easily and safely make phone calls, access your music, send and receive messages, get directions, and more. It’s all designed to let iPhone focus on what you need, so you can focus on the road.”
Car manufacturers onboard with iOS in the Car system include Acura (Honda), Chevrolet, Kia, Mercedes, Nissan and Volvo.
