Aston Martin’s new Vanquish AM310 pictures emerge

The Aston Martin Vanquish was axed in 2007 and replaced by the DBS at the top of the company’s food chain. This year, Aston Martin promises to reverse that process by killing off the DBS in favour of a new AM310 Vanquish.

The new Vanquish will replace the current DBS.

The new Vanquish is being launched as part of Aston Martin’s centenary celebrations, so it makes sense to revive the iconic badge in celebration of its history. The new Vanquish will usher in a new, more modern aesthetic that will be seen on future Astons, just as the original Vanquish did all those years ago.

The entire car is built on an a new aluminium chassis and features carbon fibre body panels. The front has a very aggressive look thanks to vertical LEDs and a horizontal ‘eyebrow’ in the primary headlamps, as well as an enormous carbon fibre front splitter. The sides of the car aren’t massively different to the DBS, but the haunches do seem more exaggerated, giving it a more muscular look.

Round the back, the AM310 Vanquish has lost the brutal-looking rear diffuser seen on the DBS but gains a spoiler to help reduce rear lift at high speeds.

Inside, the AM310 Vanquish has a higher hip point than the DBS, giving a better view along the bonnet. It also promises better head and leg room, neater, easier to use (though not easier to see) dashboard controls and 65 per cent more boot space.

Power will come from what is essentially the same 6-litre V12 Aston Martin used in the DBS. This time out, it’ll produce 565bhp and 457lb-ft of torque, channeled through Aston Martin’s Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic gearbox. This should give it a 4.1-second 0-60mph time and a 195mph top speed.

Expect the AM310 Vanquish to go on sale in early 2013.

Update: Full official Vanquish specs can be found here.

The rear has a few tweaks, too. The huge spoiler seen on the DBS has vanished, but it does gain a super-thin spoiler.

You may not be able to tell this Aston is new simply by looking at it side on.

The car is based on an updated aluminium chassis and has carbon fibre body panels.

Here's a close-up of that rear spoiler.

The car uses the same 6-litre V12 as the DBS, but Aston has managed to extract more power from it.

Inside, the new Vanquish has a higher hip line, meaning it's a bit easier to see over the bonnet.

The dashboard controls are updated, too. These look just as difficult to see as the previous items, but are a big more stylish.
