The astronomically expensive Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has a Guinness World Record top speed of 267.8mph. On the off chance you need visual proof, feast your eyes on the following.
YouTuber ‘The Stradman’ uploaded a video of the Bugatti Veyron in action at the 2014 Sun Valley Road Rally in Idaho of America. A lengthy stretch of road is used to demonstrate what a quad turbocharged, 1,200hp monster can do. Scrap that. What a one-of-a-kind Veyron Pur Blanc edition can do.
The event caught on video sees the Super Sport – driven by owner Benjamin Chen – hammering along a usually public road, leaving a harmonious mix of grumbling and jet fighter whining in its wake. Event organisers announce a total of 246.4mph, sparking loud applause and cheers from onlookers.
The speed achieved is a record for the event, but 21mph off its official top speed, which has been unofficially beaten by the 270.49mph Venom GT. It’s worth noting the Venom GT only had a 3.22-mile runway to reach that speed, compared with the Veyron’s 8-mile oval.
The Veyron was also given a run for its money by the Koenigsegg Agera S, in a drag race at least.
Chen is known for calling his Veyron the ‘Panda’ (referring to the black and white paintjob) and for allegedly spending US$125,000 on some gold Bugatti wheels for an event known as the goldRush Rally. Tough life, eh?
