Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge is the devil in red paintwork

The Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge shows what Infiniti could do if it really tried.

We rather like the Infiniti Q50. In fact, we’d go so far as to buy one with our own money. But we’d splash out and sell our grandmothers to get a hold of this Q50 Eau Rough concept, unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show.

OK, so granny probably wouldn’t fetch much at her age, but she’s handy in the kitchen, tells a mean story and we’re sure she’d understand being traded for this; the Q50 Eau Rough is gorgeous, thanks to lower, wider bodywork than the standard car, and components inspired by Red Bull’s title-winning RB9 Formula 1 car.

The front wing assembly and rear aerodynamic packaging in particular take their cues from the RB9, while the rear fog light is F1 through and through. Elsewhere, you’ll find red-infused carbon fibre detailing on the doors and centre console, plus a high-grip sports steering wheel and F1-style paddle shifters.

Of course, the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge doesn’t officially exist — it’s just a concept at this stage — but if Infiniti was to build the thing, it’d no doubt be incredibly powerful.

Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti, said: “If we built this car I would expect it to feature over 500hp and 600lb/ft of torque. Through our various alliance partners we have access to a range of engines featuring this performance capability which, with a fair amount of engineering effort, can be developed to exhibit Infiniti character and accommodated within the Q50 engine bay. The engine we are evaluating for the Q50 Eau Rouge is a big personality, V-cylinder engine with forced induction.

I think our engineers have been waiting for a project like this,” he continued.

So have we, buddy. Although our grannies might think differently.
