Lamborghini’s Egoista is immune to speed cameras, doesn’t have any doors

To suggest Lamborghini’s design has jumped the shark would be something of an understatement.  The company’s latest efforts, the Veneno and the bonkers new Egoista concept, suggest it’s backflipped the gorilla, landed on a killer whale and surfed one-legged through a sea of tyrannosaurus rexes.

The Egoista, revealed at the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations, is properly mad, to put it mildly. Inside, its single-seater cockpit is inspired by the cabin of an Apache helicopter and, like the chopper in question, it has a natty head-up display that looks as if it was designed to help you shoot everything in your path.

Its exterior is pretty trick, too, thanks to air force-inspired countermeasures: its body and wheels are made from a special anti-radar material that makes it immune to the radar waves used by certain speed cameras.

The Egoista, which means ‘selfish’ in Italian, rather aptly only has room for one occupant, strapped into a racing seat with a four-point seatbelt. Getting in and out of the thing looks a bit tricky, as the driver needs to remove the steering wheel, lift up the roof and then clamber across the bodywork. If you own one of these, be prepared to flash your knickers.

Lamborghini president and CEO, Stephen Winkelmann, said: “This is a car made for one person only, to allow them to have fun and express their personality to the maximum. It is designed purely for hyper-sophisticated people who want only the most extreme and special things in the world, it is a car without compromises.” Apart from it not having a door, we assume.

It’s also a car that nobody will ever own. Unlike the limited edition Veneno and Aventador J concepts, Lamborghini doesn’t plan to sell the Egoista to anyone. Ever.

There’s no point telling you, then, that it uses a 592bhp version of the company’s familiar 5.2-litre V10 engine, or that Lamborghini hasn’t confirmed any acceleration or top speed figures, or that we think it looks a little silly.
