Police to prosecute car crash photo rubberneckers

Police to prosecute motorists who take photos of car crashes.

Police in Northamptonshire have been papping motorists. This time it’s not the drivers’ speed at fault, but their mobile phone usage. Drivers have been caught whipping out their mobiles to capture scenes of an accident as they crawled by in the traffic on the opposite carriageway, prompting police to do some filming of their own.

Police were said to be “amazed” to see motorists filming the incident. So amazed in fact, the officers used their phones to record which drivers were committing the offence. Police intend to prosecute those captured on camera.

Inspector Jen Helm said: “What might be a great Facebook update for one person could picture the spot where someone’s daughter or father took their last breath.”

She went on to remind drivers that using a mobile phone while driving can lead to serious injury and sometimes cause road traffic accidents. Only a few weeks ago, a woman died in an accident after posting a selfie and updating Facebook while driving.

We’re amazed too. The ban on the use of mobile phones is a much-talked-about subject. Yet, these drivers not only used their phones while driving, but also did so in front of law enforcement officers.

Does anyone like a rubbernecker? Answers on a postcard… or below in the comments box. We’d love to hear what you think of these drivers.
