Skoda builds giant monster truck ice cream van to celebrate Octavia vRS

Ice cream vans are a sight for sore eyes on hot summer days, but this monstrosity might make children think twice about whether they want to pester its driver for cold treats. This, ladies and sugar-addled gentlemen is Skoda’s monster truck ice cream van – the largest ice cream dispensing vehicle on the planet, and the only vehicle of its kind you’re more likely to see before you hear.

Built to celebrate the launch of the Octavia vRS – the fastest Skoda on the planet – the giant ice cream van is the latest in a line of ‘extreme’ objects created to demonstrate what would happen if you “vRS’d your life”. Other oddball items in the series include a giant vRS Mega-man pram (a baby stroller that looks like it was built for the Hulk) a giant toy ‘trike’ and a lawnmower with multiple exhaust pipes and flaming go-faster stripes.

The giant ice cream van took a team of engineers over three weeks to create, measures over 21 feet long and weighs 5.5 tonnes. It was unveiled at Great Yarmouth where its operators handed out free giant ice creams to local children who needed ladders to collect their cold, creamy bounty.

The giant ice cream van will be touring the UK, handing out up to 6,500 servings of free ice cream in the process. It will appear at Bournemouth Air Festival on Thursday 29 August to Sunday 1 September, various King of the Mountains stages at Tour of Britain (dates TBC) and the Royal County of Berkshire Show at Newbury between Saturday 21 September and Sunday 22 September.
