Take another look at the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante

Aston Martin has served up more appetising details of the Vanquish Volante at the Frankfurt motor show, building on the initial reveal back in June.

For those of you who’ve forgotten, the Vanquish Volante is essentially the drop top version of Aston Martin’s stunning flagship coupe. It uses the same 6.0-litre V12 as its hard-top cousin. Aston Martin quotes a 0 to 62mph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 183mph ─ enough to blow your toupe off, then.

Aston Martin claims the Volante is 14 per cent torsionally stiffer than its predecessor, making it the stiffest (and hopefully best handling) convertible the company has ever made. Folding down the triple-layer fabric roof takes 14 seconds.

Although practicality is a bit of a boring subject for Aston Martin, it has made the car easier to live with on a day to day basis. The infotainment system has a more user-friendly design and boot space has been increased in volume to a more useful 279 litres – a 50 per cent boost – whether the roof is up or down.

“Vanquish Volante is a sports car, of course, but more even than that it is the ultimate Volante,” Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman explained. “A car which follows a long line of elegant Aston Martin convertibles, this super GT is sculpted to convey sophistication as much as raw power.”

Aston Martin says the Vanquish Volante will be in showrooms in the UK and across the world “over the coming weeks”, with the first cars arriving before 2013 is out.

Prices start at £199,995.
