VW Golf GTI Performance Pack Video Review

Check out Rory Reid’s video review and road test of the VW Golf GTI Performance Pack – the ultimate version of the Golf GTI.

Want a hot hatch? Well whatever you do, don’t buy a VW Golf GTI. They’re awesome, don’t get us wrong, but for a few more pennies you could bag yourself the enhanced GTI Performance Pack version, which is superior in just about every way.

But for its red, ‘GTI’-emblazoned brake calipers, the GTI Performance Pack looks identical to the standard GTI. Don’t let that fool you, though. The updated car’s engine has been tweaked, so it now produces 10bhp more than the standard car – 227bhp instead of 217bhp. That allows it to complete the 0-62mph sprint in 6.5 seconds as opposed to 6.5, though it feels noticeably livelier throughout the rev range, generally out-gunning the standard GTI in every respect.

The car handles better, too. Larger brakes make for improved stopping power, and a proper mechanical, clutch-style limited slip differential helps it get its power down both in a straight line and when going around corners.

All of that costs £980 above the price of the standard car, which we think is pretty reasonable, but you can judge for yourself after watching our video review above. When you’re done, let us know what you think in the comments below.
