Freeview Play to be included in all 2015 Panasonic Viera TVs

Accessing catch-up content on Freeview is set to get a hell of a lot easier – if you own a Panasonic TV. The Japanese giant has announced it will be the first to support the new Freeview Play platform through its 2015 range of Viera TVs and standalone digital recorders.

Freeview Play, for the uninitiated, allows Freeview customers to access catch-up content directly through a new Freeview electronic programme guide, instead of going through the hassle of locating and opening separate catch-up apps.

Freeview Play will feature catch-up content from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and 4oD at launch, with Channel 5’s Demand 5 set to join later.

The service will be built into all 2015 Viera TVs. Those with older Panasonic TVs will be able to access Freeview Play by purchasing a Panasonic Freeview Play recorder, although the release date for those devices is currently unconfirmed.

Guy North, Managing Director of Freeview, said: ‘We believe that Freeview Play will put viewers back in control and we’re delighted that Panasonic is our first TV launch partner. Freeview Play will be integrated into a number of TVs in the new VIERA range, giving people the freedom to choose across a range of price points. We look forward to welcoming more products from other partners later this year.’
