John Lewis TV Gallery video: 4K and OLED from Samsung, Sony, LG and Panasonic

Londoners don’t have to miss out on the latest 4K and OLED TV tech being enjoyed by Germans at IFA 2013, thanks to the John Lewis 4K and OLED TV Gallery.

The exhibition will be at the Rook & Raven Gallery in Rathbone Place, London W1T 1HN, until Saturday, September 7, then in selected John Lewis stores.

It’s best seen in the gallery, so we’ve put together a quick look, with a few words from Jonathan Marsh, head of buying at John Lewis, and two of the artists involved, Neville Gabie and Doug Foster.

John Lewis has gathered together TVs from LG, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony to show off the capabilities of 4K Ultra HD LED and plasma screens, and Full HD OLED.

Johnathan Marsh, Head of Buying at John Lewis, said: "John Lewis prides itself on being able to offer cutting edge technology to its customers first.

“The TV Gallery has been a fantastic project that has allowed us to show, for the first time, artwork by a selection of contemporary artists, on ultra-high definition screens, that offering four times the resolution of current HD televisions."

It’s rare to see different brands of TV lined up against each other like this, and to our eye, the most interesting facet was how good the OLED TVs in Full HD looked against the Ultra HD LED screens.

The OLEDs made up for the lack of resolution in with contrast, depth and smooth motion that demonstrated this technology’s worthy claim to television’s future.
