HTC Nexus S1 ‘Sailfish’: The new 2016 Google Nexus phone in a nutshell

HTC has been revealed as the manufacturer of the first new 2016 Google Nexus phone, nicknamed the HTC Nexus S1, or Nexus Sailfish. Here’s all you need to know about the HTC Nexus S1, including specs, rumours and more.

What is the HTC Nexus S1 ‘Sailfish’?

Every year Google launches some own-brand ‘Nexus’ smartphones, which are the first new mobiles to sport Google’s latest version of Android OS. Unlike many Android phones, the Nexus handsets sport a vanilla version of Google’s OS, with no software tinkering or bolt-on features.

Google doesn’t manufacture the Nexus phones itself, however. Last year’s Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P were crafted by LG and Huawei, and this year it appears that HTC will be producing at least one of the new Nexus phones, dubbed the ‘HTC Nexus S1 Sailfish’. Rumours suggest there will be two new Nexus mobiles in 2016.

What are the HTC Nexus S1 Sailfish’s specs?

The Nexus S1 Sailfish hasn’t been officially unveiled by Google yet, but here are the rumoured specs:

5-inch Full HD screen

Quad-core 2GHz processor (likely a Snapdragon)

12-megapixel rear camera

8-megapixel selfie camera

4GB RAM

32GB storage (microSD support uncertain)

2770mAh battery

The HTC Nexus S1 Sailfish is also rumoured to pack a fingerprint sensor, positioned on the back of the phone just like last year’s Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. And we’re expecting BoomSound-style speakers, like those found on the HTC 10.

Do we know the UK price and release date for the HTC Nexus S1 Sailfish?

Not yet. The official UK price and release date will likely be revealed when the HTC Nexus S1 Sailfish is launched by Google, which is likely to happen around September 2016.
