iPhone 7 Plus vs OnePlus 3: Specs at a glance
|Phone||iPhone 7 Plus||OnePlus 3|
|Processor||A10 Fusion||Snapdragon 820|
|Cameras||12MP + 7MP||16MP + 8MP|
iPhone 7 Plus vs OnePlus 3: Design
The OnePlus 3 is the same size as the iPhone 7 Plus, with both mobiles packing a mighty 5.5-inch frame that well and truly fills the hand. Of course, 5.5-inches seems to be pretty much the norm these days, but you’ll still need two hands to operate either handset.
OnePlus’ mobile actually isn’t too bulky and proves impressively slender, thanks to the edge-to-edge screen. Likewise, the iPhone 7 Plus sports rounded edges that make for a comfortable grip. Both of these blowers are good-looking devices, although the iPhone 7 Plus is the only phone to offer a choice of colours as well as the glossy new Jet Black finish. Apparently that Jet Black model is susceptible to scratches however, unlike the standard iPhone 7 Plus finishes and the hardy OnePlus 3.
Apple’s mighty handset is also the only one here to offer water resistance. Dunk the OnePlus 3 and chances are it’ll crap out on you.
iPhone 7 Plus vs OnePlus 3: Screen and media
Both phones here offer a spacious screen for movie viewing and gaming, but the OnePlus 3’s AMOLED panel is the more vibrant display. That said, both the OnePlus and the iPhone 7 Plus churn out attractive visuals, with strong brightness levels to cut through any irritating surrounding glare.
Bad news if you want to carry around a big media collection, however. Neither phone here supports microSD memory cards, so you’re basically stuck with whatever on-board storage you have left. The OnePlus 3 gives you 64GB of space to play with, which is more than the base 32GB iPhone 7 Plus.That said, the iPhone 7 Plus can also be snagged with a seriously meaty 128GB or 256GB of storage, which is plenty of space for your apps, games, movies and more. Problem is, you’ll need to stump up some serious cash to upgrade to those models.
iPhone 7 Plus vs OnePlus 3: Performance and battery life
Performance is about as good as you can get right now, no matter which mobile you pick. Apple’s super-charged A10 Fusion processor runs the show for the iPhone 7 Plus, handling the latest games and memory-sucking apps without breaking sweat. Meanwhile the OnePlus 3’s Snapdragon 820 chipset, backed by a supremely ridiculous 6GB of RAM, is one of the most powerful Android handsets in existence.
As for battery life, the OnePlus 3 is the clear winner. You can get a day and a half of solid use per charge, with Dash Charge on hand to power the phone back up to almost full in just an hour. In comparison, the iPhone 7 Plus is said to give users just over a day of use between charges, a little more than last year’s iPhone 6s Plus.
Of course, that’s something we’ll be testing in full for our in-depth iPhone 7 Plus review.
iPhone 7 Plus vs OnePlus 3: Cameras
While the OnePlus 3’s 16-megapixel camera is generally dependable as long as lighting conditions are respectable, quickly taking sharp and detail-packed shots, it definitely falls down in other areas. Low light performance is definitely limited and the OnePlus” snapper is particularly disappointing when shooting video. Image stabilisation is poor compared with most rivals, while audio quality is decidedly ropey. Still, at least you can shoot 4K footage if needed.

The iPhone 7 Plus boasts Apple’s first ever dual-lens smartphone camera. This seconday telephoto lens not only allows you to zoom in closer to your subject with no loss in quality, but also gives your shots some very cool bokeh effects, where the backgrounds are blurred to an extreme degree.
You can also expect improved low-light performance for those pub and club shots thanks to Apple’s optical image stabilisation and 4-LED flash. You can once again record 4K UHD video too, hopefully with spectacular results.

iPhone 7 Plus vs OnePlus 3: Verdict
The OnePlus 3 holds up well against the iPhone 7 Plus despite costing less than half of Apple’s mighty handset. You get better battery life, performance that’s just as impressive, and another stunning Full HD screen that’s great for enjoying movies on the go.
In fact, the only area where the iPhone 7 Plus may offer a strong advantage over the OnePlus 3 is Apple’s dual-lens camera tech. If those two snappers really do work together well, then photo fans will be better off with the iPhone.
