Moto E4 launches: Specs, UK price and release date

Lenovo has just launched the new Moto E4 smartphone, offering impressive value for money at just £129. Here’s all you need to know, including the full specs and the UK release information.

As much as we love Motorola’s more premium handsets, like the Moto Z and Moto Z Play, Moto’s true strength lies at the budget end of the mobile market. For instance, the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus offer fantastic value for money, proving solid enough to replace most premium devices, but at under half the cost.

However, for those on an even tighter budget, the new Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus will be even more on the money.

The Moto E4 is more basic than the Moto G phones, like the Moto E 4G before it. But despite the simple specs, you can expect a fully-fledged smartphone experience, albeit with few frills. The best part is of course the asking price, which at £129 seriously undercuts many rivals. This alone makes the Moto E4 a worthy choice as a replacement or secondary handset.

If you want something a bit better with improved specs, check out the Moto E4 Plus.

Moto E4 key features

Despite that affordable UK price, the Moto E4 comes with a metal back for a more premium feel than the previous plastic Moto E3. At 151g, it’s pleasingly hefty without weighing you down. The Moto E4 also features a fingerprint sensor on the front, just like the E4 Plus model. You also get NFC built-in and full 4G connectivity.

The Moto E4 actually rocks quite similar specs to the older Moto E3. That 5-inch 720p IPS display should be fine for web browsing and enjoying the odd spot of YouTube or Netflix, hopefully with reasonably punchy colour reproduction.

The Moto E4 comes packing a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, backed by 2GB of RAM. Again that should be fine for quite basic use, but don’t expect to do much fast-paced gaming, especially over the long haul. You’ll also get 16GB of storage, expandable via microSD.

As for the user experience, you get the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. Moto mobiles tend to pack a vanilla version of Android with no clunky overlay on top, which helps to provide a smooth everyday experience. This should also mean the Moto E4 is one of the earlier handsets in line for an update when new software upgrades are released.

When it comes to snapping your life, the Moto E4 should be more than capable for basic everyday shots thanks to its 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras. Both should also be able to manage HD video recording without much bother.

Lenovo has crammed in a decent-sized 2800mAh battery, which is removable to boot – a feature not commonly found on modern mobiles. This should be plenty for all-day battery life, with the option to swap out a spare for those wanting to go longer without a charger.

Moto E4 UK price and release date

The Lenovo Moto E4 will cost a wallet friendly €150, or £129 here in the UK. Considering the specs on offer, that’s a very good price point. You can grab the E4 when it’s released in the UK in the coming month.
