Nokia 6303: Hands-on with a budget beauty

Forget the iPhone 3GS, forget the HTC Hero. If all you want is a simple phone to make calls and text with then we implore you to have a look at the Nokia 6303. This elegantly designed phone isn’t a show-stopper but it did fill us with a warmth that only comes from well made phones. No gimmicks, no wannabe features — the 6303 does what it says on the tin and it does it well. You can pick up a 6303 for free on a monthly contract or for around £100 on pay as you go. The Nokia 6303 measures a pocket-friendly 12mm thick. It’s curved edges and compact design make it a great choice for anyone looking for a compact phone that will slip easily into a bag or pocket.

On the back there’s a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash. We tested the camera out very quickly and it seems to work well but we’ll make our final judgement in the full review.

Praise the mobile gods. On the bottom of the 6303 you’ll find a standard charging point, a micro USB port and a music-loving 3.5mm headphone jack – yay.

Our initial impression of the 6303’s keypad is that it’s one of the best out there. Small and well laid out, we found typing on it very easy.
