Nokia Asha 305, 306 and 311 touch phones launch

Nokia have just announced three new members to their feature phone lineup. Meet the Nokia Asha 305, the Nokia Asha 306 and the Nokia Asha 311, three devices which initially appeared as leaked entities back in April. The Asha name, which emerged in October time last year at Nokia World 2011 now totals a family of 10 devices, with the inclusion of these new handsets.

Designed for emerging markets and in a bid to bring high-end features to more affordable handsets, the Asha series have seen strong sales in regions such as India and South America. The 305, 306 and 311 are the first Asha phones to offer a full touch interface. Nokia have reworked the UI specifically to make use of the new hardware with an improved level of usability as a result.

Mary T. McDowell, Nokia’s Executive VP for Mobile Phones said, “These phones deliver on what young, urban people value most — a great-looking device; and an intuitive and affordable experience for connecting to the internet, to their friends, and to a world of entertainment, web apps and content.

Both the Asha 305 (pictured above) and Asha 306 share the same design language, with four colourful plastic bodies on offer. What’s more, the 305 offers Nokia Easy Swap dual SIM slots, so users can exchange SIM cards on-the-fly without turning the phone off. The 306 is simply the single SIM variant of the 305, but as such, becomes the most affordable WiFi-capable handset Nokia now produce. Both devices offer 3-inch WVGA (240×400) displays, 2-megapixel cameras and GPRS or EDGE connectivity.

The Asha 311 (video below) offers up a little more luxury, with a 3-inch QVGA (240×320) capacitive touchscreen (the 305 and 306 use resistive touch), a 3.2-megapixel camera and HSPA mobile data connectivity as well as WiFi. The 311 also makes use of a 1GHz processor and more internal memory (256MB) than is available from the 305/306 (64MB), expandible via microSD up to 32GB.

Users of all three new Asha touchphones will be able to choose from a selection of 40 EA titles, designed for the devices too. The Nokia Asha 305 is expected to appear sometime in Q2 this year at an ERP of €63, whilst both the Asha 306 and Asha 311 are said to arrive later in Q3, with pricing at €68 and €92 respectively.
