This time last year, OnePlus launched our favourite phone of 2016: the OnePlus 3T. We’re now on the brink of the OnePlus 5T launch, a revamped and upgraded version of the excellent OnePlus 5 smartphone, and here’s all you need to know ahead of time. That includes how to actually attend the launch event and get your hands on the device itself, as well as pre-order ahead of everyone else.
OnePlus is all about high-spec, great value smartphones and it’s getting faster these days at upgrading and releasing new handsets. The brilliant OnePlus 5 hasn’t been out long and it’s already out of stock on the company’s website, which hinted heavily at a new device coming our way. The good news is, OnePlus itself has (finally) officially confirmed that the new phone is incoming.
We also know for sure that it will be called the OnePlus 5T rather than a OnePlus 6. Which makes sense – as it’s only been six months, we’d have been surprised to see a completely new flagship.
Although OnePlus hasn’t revealed too much about the new 5T smartphone thus far, we’ve regardless seen plenty of leaks suggesting the type of screen, camera and specs we can expect to come packed in. Read on to find out everything you need to know about the next phone that could offer flagship phone-beating specs at a pleasingly mid-range asking price.

OnePlus 5T release date and price
These rumours all began when the OnePlus 5 went out of stock on the official website, although OnePlus itself was strangely quiet on the matter. Well, apart from some rather hefty hints on Twitter, that is.
Now we know for sure that the OnePlus 5T will be launched on November 16 in Brooklyn, New York. This will take place at 4pm UK time, and you can watch the grand reveal live yourself via the internet.
Following the official pulling back of the curtains, the OnePlus 5T will be available to pre-order via O2 – the UK’s exclusive carrier for this shiny new handset. You can then buy the device outright from 2pm our time on November 21.
A recent listing has shown the price at $549 (so likely £449 to £499 here in Blighty), but whether that proves accurate or not remains to be seen. We won’t know until the launch date whether that price really is correct.
How can I watch the OnePlus 5T launch live on the internet?
Anyone can watch the OnePlus 5T launch as it happens, as long as they have an internet connection on some kind of device. Be it laptop, smartphone, tablet, games console or whatever.

OnePlus 5T specs and features
These days it’s rare for a phone to actually launch with any kind of surprises. Leaks and web rumours mean we generally know quite a lot about the specs, camera tech and other features before the curtain is officially lifted. Sometimes we even see marketing materials from the manufacturer ahead of time, after simple slip-ups.
As a consequence, we possibly already know some of the juicy details behind the OnePlus 5T. Here’s what you need to know.
What processor will the OnePlus 5T use?
Some rumours suggest that the biggest upgrade on the 5T model is going to be the CPU, with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 845 chipset taking pride of place in the mobile’s innards. However, with Qualcomm allegedly holding back the new 845 until 2018, that would mean a significant delay to the next OnePlus release. We can’t see that happening, especially as the OnePlus 5 stocks are already apparently depleted.
Which means the OnePlus 5T is likely to once again sport the Snapdragon 835 chipset found in the OnePlus 5. Definitely not a bad thing, as you can still expect buttery smooth performance and future-proof connectivity.
Either way, the new handset is expected to come backed with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM onboard, plus up to 256GB storage. Nothing revolutionary there, considering the already strong specs of the OnePlus 5.
Will the OnePlus 5T have a bezel-free display?
According to GizmoChina, we can expect the OnePlus 5T to come with a display that fills the front of the phone, minus those pesky bezels. This kind of design is of course becoming much desired from premium handsets, such as the Galaxy phones’ Infinity Display and LG’s V30. Rumours point to a full 6-inch screen, and we’re expecting a finish similar to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro‘s.
That display is expected to offer a resolution of 2160×1080. You may have spotted that’s a little off, compared with the standard 1920×1080 res enjoyed by the likes of the OnePlus 5. That’s because the OnePlus 5T is expected to pack a stretched 18:9 aspect ratio, which has been catching on since LG first introduced its G6.
The current OnePlus 5 features an AMOLED display so we’d expect that to remain the screen tech of choice.
Will the OnePlus 5T Dash Charge its battery?
While the size of the new OnePlus 5T battery isn’t clear, it’s near certain that OnePlus will continue to keep its Dash Charging feature onboard for super fast charging.
The OnePlus 5 features a 3,330mAh battery, so this new model should have a battery of at least that size to support the new, enlarged screen. If it is bigger, then that Dash Charging skill will be needed more than ever.
What camera will the OnePlus 5T feature?
The rather good OnePlus 5 camera is a dual lens setup, which will more than likely remain on the new handset. This is an incredibly popular type of camera setup now, and we’d be surprised to see much change to the 16-megapixel sensor and 20-megapixel telephoto sensor on the previous device.
However, one leak has suggested that the rear snapper will feature two 20-megapixel cameras, with a 16-megapixel front-facing selfie camera also on board.
What software will the OnePlus 5T get?
One of the great things about the OnePlus smartphones is their clean Android operating systems. Since the OnePlus 5T will be out either later this year or in 2018, we can almost certainly expect Google’s latest Oreo operating system to be running the show. On top of that should be the usual OnePlus OxygenOS, which is pleasingly clean while packing in loads of extra features – most of which are useful.
