Samsung will be announcing it’s 8-inch Apple iPad Mini rival the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 at Mobile World Congress according to Samsung's VP JK Shin as a picture of the tablet emerges.
According to South Korean website news1, in a meeting with reporters Shin confirmed the 8-inch Galaxy Note 8.0 will be officially confirmed at MWC at the end of February.
SamMobile has also published a photo of the alleged Note 8.0, which appears to be from a display card. It shows a white tablet that looks a little like the Samsung Galaxy S3, with curved corners and a white hyperglaze plastic back.
According to SamMobile the tablet will have an 8-inch 1280x800 Super Clear LCD screen and run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. On the back there’s a 5-megapixel camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for voice calls, it will have 2GB RAM and be available in 16 or 32GB versions, expandable via a microSD card card.
Two versions of the tablet will be available - the GT-N5110 will be WiFi only and the GT-N5100 will include 3G - so based on this information it isn’t 4G ready. Bluetooth 4.0, N WiFi and A-GPS are on board too.
Bearing the Note moniker means it will be equipped with an S-Pen like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or Samsung Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
We're not surprised to hear Samsung is readying a new tablet to take on the iPad Mini. The closest rival in its current tablet range is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (right), which has a 7-inch screen announced a year or so ago. Bringing in S-Pen functionality and making it part of the ‘Note’ range to make it stand out from other small-form tablets is a wise move on Samsung's part.
We’ll bring you more news about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 when we get it.
