The Sony Xperia J may play second fiddle to the the Xperia T, but the premium look and feel, as well as the some unique design touches don’t give on the differentiation between the two handsets that Sony might have anticipated.
Internally the handset doesn’t have quite the same punch as its Xperia superior, better reflecting its mid-range status. The handset features a 1GHz single-core processor, powering a beautiful 4-inch WVGA display. On the back we were also impressed with the 5-megapixel camera, an element Sony always try to insure performs well.
One of the key gripes that we found with the J is that we’re unsure of how its hardware will fare on a typical two-year plan, as such we’re including the shortest tariff on offer from each of these carriers alongside a plan which they recommend. Alternatively you can check out our Sony Xperia J Deals.
The Xperia J can be had for just £34 a month on a twelve month plan which offers 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 100MB of data and the ability to upgrade from the J one month early. Meanwhile O2 recommend their On & On plan; for £26 a month customers retain the ability for a one-month early upgrade, with unlimited calls and texts alongside 1GB of data every month in a two-year plan. In both cases the cost of the Xperia J is totally free.
Although Orange and T-Mobile now operate under one banner in the form of EE, the more traditional 3G handsets still feature independently on both carriers. The Sony Xperia J can be had for the £20.50 a month on a two-year Panther plan granting access to 100 minutes, unlimited texts and email access, 500MB of mobile data, one free Orange Swapable, access to BT WiFi hotspots and a free handset.
The carrier announced that the Sony Xperia J arrived today. The two main contracts which the J can be had on are the Ultimate Internet 1000 plan; which features Three’s all-you-can-eat (unlimited) data, 1000 minutes and 5000 texts all for £25 a month over 24 months. Meanwhile The One Plan is another 24 month tariff which for £28 a month features unlimited data, 5000 Three-to-Three minutes, 5000 texts and 2000 any network minutes.
One of the most affordable plans from T-Mo clocks in at just £7 a month for 24 months with the additional upfront cost of £150 for the Sony Xperia J handset. Included in the plan are 50 minutes, 100 texts and 250MB of data, suitable for light use only, naturally. Conversely T-Mobile’s cheapest Full Monty plan clocks in at £36 a month for 24 months which includes a free handset, 2000 minutes and unlimited data, texts and T-Mobile-to-T-Mobile calls.
Both on contract and SIM-free, the Xperia J can be had, with Carphone Warehouse recommending a £15.50 a month plan from T-Mobile which features 50 any network minutes, 250 texts and 750MB over two years with a free handset, otherwise £199.95 will grab you the Xperia J SIM-free.
£190.80 will buy you a Sony Xperia J off contract and unlocked, but in addition offers a 60-day free trial of Unlimited Music Premium, one of Sony’s added value services designed to provide unlimited music streaming and offline downloads across Sony device.
