Teletubbies take on Barney in iPhone mini-games war

Imagine if the Teletubbies really did go to war with Barney the purple dinosaur? Perhaps the BBC should pull some strings to make a Christmas special. Plus an after-the-watershed version with more gore, just for parents who’ve suffered at the hands of both children’s TV brands…

Anyway, they are battling it out on the App Store, with each launching an iPhone app this week with mini-games for kids to play.

Teletubbies: My First App is the work of BBC Worldwide, and features all the characters from the show – yes, including the Noo Noo.  Mini-games include ‘Tubby Hello/Bye Bye’, ‘Tubby Custard’, ‘Musical Hills’ and ‘Running’.

As you can imagine from the age group who most enjoy Teletubbies on TV, this is aimed at very young children. It also includes a Parent’s Zone so you can set how long your kids can play with it. To be honest, I’m holding out for an In The Night Garden app, but Teletubbies fans will love this.

And Barney? His star may have waned somewhat here in the UK, where he never quite became as big a phenomenon as in the US. However, the brand is still going strong, reflected in his new app from HiT Entertainment.

It promises to let you have, ahem, a ‘Super-Dee-Dooper Fun Day’ with Barney and his dino-friends BJ and Baby Bop. The three mini-games are based around shape recognition, whether it’s hats, cookies or clouds. A Create mode in each lets your children play without goals.
