We’ve just come away from a presentation by Paul Hicks – Toshiba’s Product Manager for Laptops and Tablets across Northern Europe. Long-winded titles aside, Hicks was able to pull the wraps of a family of new Toshiba tablets hoping to entice customers away from iPads and Galaxy Tabs alike.
The new Android tablets, which are actually are on show right now at Computex in Taipei, fall under the Excite brand which Toshiba has already been using Stateside for a few years and take the form of the Toshiba Excite Write, Toshiba Excite Pro and Toshiba Excite Pure.
The Pure is the new baby of the bunch, but we use the term loosely. Marketing this tablet as the simple all-rounder, it features a 10.1-inch WXGA display, an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and Android Jelly Bean 4.2 off the bat.
The affordable option in this trio of new slates, the Pure features a predominantly plastic body, stereo speakers 16GB or 32GB of on board memory, expandability via microSD, a micro HDMI out and a headphone jack on the port front. As was already mentioned, the 10.1-inch screen offers up a 1280×800 WXGA resolution above which sits a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera.
On the back is a simple 3-megapixel camera with no flash and not much else. We don’t yet know clock speed of the Pure’s Tegra 3 chip either, but it can naturally run the majority of the stuff in the Tegra Zone without too much trouble.
The price for this high-powered low-tier tablet? When it arrived to market in Q3 later this year, we were quoted £249 for the smaller capacity option, which isn’t too shabby.
