Twitter for Android 2.1+ phones gets an update

An updated version of Twitter for Android was released late last night, bringing some rather nifty new features to the app.

You can now swipe left to right across a Tweet in the timeline to reveal options like replying, retweeting or viewing a user’s profile. Tapping on the retweet option also gives you the option of quoting people’s Tweets as well as RT’ing to your followers. Another neat feature we really like is that if you pull down on the timeline it automatically refreshes.

It’s available for Android phones running 2.1/Eclair and above and is free to download from the Android Market.

We were required to perform a manual update to get the update on our Nexus One. So even if you’re running Android 2.2 and you’ve got automatic updates checked, you might need to dive into the Market and search for the Twitter app.
