Lamborghini Antares smartphone costs how much?!

Iconic Italian car manufacturer Lamborghini is planning a second foray into the smartphone world with the upcoming release of Antares, a limited edition, Android 4.2-powered handset.

Boasting a 1.5GHZ quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and a dated version of Android, this moderately equipped phone isn’t exactly cutting edge. However, as you would expect from a luxury brand like Lamborghini, it comes with a hefty price tag.

The Lamborghini Antares costs.... Are you sitting down? £2,500.

Should you decide to drop the £2,500 needed to buy this device, you won’t have to worry about what will happen if you happen to actually drop it. Antares comes encased in stainless steel, has a leather rear and ‘impregnable’ Gorilla Glass protecting its 960 x 540-pixel screen. That display is hardly ideal for watching movies, but you’ll be able to fit a fair few of them on the phone with 32GB of internal storage and an expandable MicroSD Slot.

This isn’t Lamborghini’s first attempt to conquer the smartphone market. In 2012, to great derision, the company launched the TL700; a gaudy gold and crocodile skin Android Gingerbread handset described by some as a ‘car crash’ and ‘the mobile equivalent of a Vauxhall Corsa in an after-market body kit’.

With its angular design, the Lambo Antares looks as if it could cut you open, but it isn't particularly cutting edge.

Both Ferrari and Porsche have released their own branded cell phones, running Android and Blackberry 10, respectively.

The Antares launches in the Russian Federation and China in December, followed by a Spring 2014 launch for Europe and the US. Whether anyone will be willing to drop a small fortune on what is a decidedly mediocre smartphone is anyone’s guess.
