McLaren P1 makes the Corvette Z06 look ridiculously slow

Ever wondered the real-world difference between a supercar and a hypercar? This video of a Corvette Z06 against a McLaren P1 will give you some idea.

The British and American cars clashed at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) during a track day, with the Z06 hot on the heels of McLaren’s hybrid beast as both cars leave a Porsche Cayman for dust. A dash cam fitted to the former caught the thrilling chase on film.

As you would expect from a video of two incredible cars with two incredibly loyal followings, the comments have been passionate to say the least. Some have complained the P1 driver is ‘inexerpienced’, hence why the Z06 catches up on the corners. “P1 driver no skill,” one YouTube user said.

Others defended the P1 pilot, saying he is ‘brave’ taking such an expensive car out on a track and that these types of track day only allow you to overtake on the straights.

“For everyone who’s slagging the P1 driver, tell me, if you owned a £850,000 car, would you drive it to the limit and risk going off on a spin? I doubt you would with a £50k car let alone a £850k car,” another commented.

There’s no disputing the Corvette Z06 is a mighty creation and one that proves not all American cars handle like a P&O ferry, but at 1:18 in the video you get to see the McLaren unleash 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo hell. Even the spoiler waves good bye as he puts pedal to metal.

Petrolheads will, of course, know the McLaren P1 is a brutally fast car on paper, but very rarely do you get to see just how fast it is in the company of others, making this video a must watch. Plus the back view of the P1 is arguably our favourite angle.

To be fair to the Z06, it costs substantially less than £866,000 P1 and has a mere 650hp, compared with 900bhp and 1,080Nm of torque. Few cars can hit 0 to 62mph in 2.8 seconds and 0 to 124mph in 6.8 seconds.
