2014 Toyota Aygo details, pictures and price

UK price and specifications announced for the new Toyota Aygo.

Toyota has given us the lowdown on its anime-inspired 2014 Aygo, including a UK price and specification. The new Aygo city car will go on sale from July 1st, 2014, priced from £8,595.

Aygo, you go
Aygo, you go

The new Aygo comes in either three or five-door in three trim levels, or ‘grades’ as Toyota calls them. X is the bottom of the range, x-play is a step up and x-pression is king. There are also two special editions to choose from: x-cite and x-clusiv.

Look at the front end of the Aygo and you can see why ‘x’ has been used. It has a cross-shape arrangement on the front end that is said to be inspired by trendy Japanese youth culture, giving it a much bolder look. An integrated spoiler at the back continues the younger vibe.

The 2014 Aygo is 25mm longer and 5mm lower than the current Aygo. This change has made it possible to increase headroom for those in the front by 7mm. Tall people, rejoice.

A 68bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder capable of an alleged 68.8mpg and 95g/km of CO2 emissions is used across the range alongside the standard five-speed manual gearbox. The lazier among us can opt for a x-shift automatic. 0 to 62mph takes a glacial 14.2 seconds either way. A more efficient ‘eco’ version is on the cards.

White Flash, Silver Splash, Electro Grey, Deep Blue Buzz and Red Pop paintjobs are available for the standard Aygo, while the x-cite and x-clusiv come in Orange Twist and Bold Black, respectively.

Toyota has been keen to stress the customisation options available to make your Aygo more personal. The OUTburst pack, for instance, adds a front bumper decal, side sills and a rear diffuser decal in red or chrome for £245.

The INspire pack lets you match the air vent surrounds and gear stick with the exterior paintjob for £165 plus it adds a piano black finish for the rest of the interior. There’s also the INtense option, which adds a body-coloured centre console, gear surround and instrument panel for £165.

The Aygo x comes with 14-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights, tyre pressure monitor and a 2-speaker sound system with AUX and USB connections. Aygo x-play has 15-inch alloys, 4-speaker sound system, Bluetooth, air-conditioning and split-folding rear seats.

The Aygo x-pression adds front fog lights, part-leather seats, glossy black bits and bobs in the interior, DAB digital radio, x-touch 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a rear-view camera. Both the x-cite and x-clusiv special editions include various interior and exterior styling tweaks such as coloured air vents.

The basic Aygo x three-door with a five-speed manual starts from £8,595. The x-pression five-door with an x-shift automatic transmission starts from £12,095. Atop the range is the x-clusiv three-door in x-shift form, which will set you back a minimum of £12,395.
