Details of the Hennessey Venom GT’s successor have landed. The Venom F5 gets its name from the Fujita tornado measuring scale, ‘F5’ being the fastest and most dangerous.
The Hennessey Venom GT is unofficially faster than the Bugatti Veyron. Reports suggest its successor will be capable of 290mph, a feat to be made possible by more than 1,400hp. Larger turbos and an intercooler will contribute to the 7.0-litre, twin-turbo V8’s power increase.
A reduction in drag coefficient of less than 0.4Cd (down from 0.44) will help the 200kg heavier Venom F5 slice through the air like a katana through warm butter. Meanwhile a single clutch gearbox in either automatic or manual will take care of putting all that power to good use.
Hennessey is making its latest supercar capable of going to the shops. “Of course, the Venom F5 retains the raw, explosive edge that makes the Venom GT such a thrill ride… but these changers will make the F5 easier and more satisfying to drive, day in, day out,” Hennessey partner Dan Goldman told PistonHeads.
The 1,244bhp Hennessey Venom GT hit a top speed of 270.49mph at the Nasa Kennedy Space Centre runway, beating the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport’s 269.86mph current Guinness World Record. Sadly two runs are needed to make it official and only one was possible.
A 2015 unveiling for the Venom F5 is in the cards. A price of US$1.2 million is expected when the supercar goes on sale a year later. Only 30 are to be built.
