Tesco Mobile offers up free 4G

New and existing Tesco Mobile customers can enjoy 4G data at no extra cost, with SIM only deals starting at £7.50

In the 4G war, Tesco has just launched a mega-nuke by offering free 4G – that’s a full 4G service at no extra cost over the standard 3G tariffs. The offer is available to new and existing Tesco Mobile customers on a Pay Monthly or SIM Only contract.

That means you can bag yourself a 4G SIM from as little as £7.50 a month, which gives you 500MB of data, 250 minutes and 5,000 texts – and that’s with no long-term contract commitment. Pay as you go customers will soon get their own bargainous 4G data bundles. If you’re an existing Tesco Mobile 4G customer, you don’t need to lift a finger to take advantage – that £2.50 4G premium will simply disappear from your bill.

It’s a bold move from Tesco Mobile, and one that other 4G operators are bound to raise an eyebrow over. The best 4G SIM-Only deal we could find on Carphone Warehouse was £11 a month (T-Mobile), for a 12-month 3GB contract – and that’s actually £16 a month, with £60 cashback. O2’s best offer was a £13.90 web exclusive deal, while EE and Vodafone’s 4G tariffs start at £21 and £26 respectively.

Could this be the start of some serious 4G price slashing? We don’t expect any huge drops any time soon, especially with O2 and Vodafone offering extras with their 4G contracts such as music and TV subscriptions, and EE’s family 4G deals proving good value for the household. However, Tesco’s announcement is fantastic news for anyone looking to jump on 4G without emptying their wallet every month.
