Skype app update brings video-calling to more phones- including our Galaxy S2

Skype has now rolled out the video-calling functionality of its Android app beyond the four initial handsets. It now includes most of the popular phones (with front-facing cameras) released in the past year.

Compatible phones now include the Samsung Galaxy S2, Galaxy S1, HTC Desire (2.2), Evo 3D (when it gets here) Incredible S, Desire HD, Flyer, and from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia Play, Xperia Ray (again, when it arrives) and the Xperia mini pro.

(Not got a compatible phone just yet? Well,  thanks to T-Mobile, we have a Samsung Galaxy S2 up for grabs. Click on to see how to enter)

UPDATE: A spokesperson from Skype has told us that phones running Android 2.2 will be able to enable video-calling in the Skype settings. They also warned that call quality may not be as good as those devices certified above.

As we’ve mentioned before, the great thing about Skype’s video-calling service is that compared to rivals- anything that can run Skype (and has a camera) is compatible.

This means you can call from your Android phone to iPhones, iPads, PCs and Macs.
