Minecraft Pocket Edition arrives in Android Market, Xperia Play only for now

Yes, it’s finally here, the game that will officially put an end to your social life once and for all. Minecraft Pocket Edition has touched down in the Android Market and is available to download right now.

Available exclusively on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play “for a limited time” according to developers Mojang, the game will be “released to other Android devices after that,” so still ye beating hearts, Galaxy S2 owners.

This version of the game according to is Alpha 0.1; more updates for the game will continue to be pumped out in the future. Focussing on the creative aspect of the game, this version allows you to access:

  • Randomized worlds
  • Build anything you can imagine
  • Build with 36 different kinds of blocks
  • Invite and play with friends to your world (local wireless network)
  • Save multi-player worlds on your own phone

Controls have been mapped to the Xperia Play’s gamepad withe circle and sqaure allowing you to scroll through blocks, but all of the selection is done on the touchscreen. So we can’t see the transition to Android phones without gamepads being too painful.

With the Xperia Play taking a recent price tumble, now would be a good time to snap one up, no?
