BT TV brings buy and keep movies to phones and tablets

BT has upgraded its buy and keep movies service, letting customers watch flicks on phones and tablets.

Films bought on a BT YouView or Vision+ set top boxes will be automatically available to watch on iOS and Android mobile devices and Windows and Mac PCs and laptops.

Prices start at £3.99 per film and customers can watch content on up to four devices per BT ID.

Alex Green, director of BT TV, said: “BT TV was the first TV platform to offer buy-to-keep movies. Now we’re the first to offer these movies digitally on multiple devices.

“We believe customers will increasingly choose digital ownership given its freedom and flexibility and the ability to create your own personal movie library. Meanwhile our TV Everywhere service allows families to enjoy some of their favourite channels around the home and on the move.”

BT says that its Box Office service launched in February this year has been a hit, with TV customers renting one movie every minute.

Top titles available for purchase in standard definition and HD now include 12 Years a Slave, Divergent, Despicable Me 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Prices start from as little as £3.99 for films in SD and £5.99 for HD movies.

BT Box Office offers more than 600 films, with all of the top titles available in HD.  BT TV also offers viewers access to Curzon Home Cinema, if they’re after something a bit more highbrow than the latest spandex-clad superhero explosion-fest.

Customers who leave BT for whatever reason will be sent back up DVDs of their purchases in the post. As with Sky’s similar Buy & Keep service, you currently don’t get Blu-ray copies of any HD movies you buy.
