True Detective season 1 turns up for £7.99 on Blinkbox and TalkTalk TV

Bargain hunters can now track down season 1 of True Detective for less than a tenner in SD.

Blinkbox and TalkTalk TV are currently offering access to the first season of the hit cop show for £7.99 in standard definition and £10.99 in HD.

The second season, which recently finished its run on Sky Atlantic, can also be yours for £13.99 in SD and £17.99 in HD.

Folks who like to sleuth out a saving will want to move quickly; from August 17 onwards, the price for both seasons of True Detective will go up to £13.95 per season in SD and £17.95 per season in HD.

The first season stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as the titular detectives on the trail of an obsessive killer who murders women in a ritualistic and gruesome fashion. What appears to be a typical buddy cop show from the outset quickly becomes something else.

True Detective’s second season shifts locations, taking us out of the Louisiana swamplands of the first series to the smog-choked wastelands of industrialised California, where the murder of a city manager kick starts a chain of events drawing in detectives, drug dealers, gangsters and governors.

Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly star in the sophomore season, which has been met with mixed reviews compared to the near-universal praise doled out to the first season.

While we’re waiting for the new season of Twin Peaks to arrive next year, True Detective will certainly satisfy the itch for ponderous police procedural drama with occult undertones. Just be sure to bring your own damn fine coffee and cherry pie.

Unlike Netflix, Prime Instant Video and Now TV, Blinkbox is a pay-per-view based service that only charges you for what you want to watch. While it gets HBO shows like Game of Thrones and True Detective after they’ve finished their runs on Sky and Now TV, once they’re available for purchase, you get to keep them for as long as you remain a Blinkbox customer.

Blinkbox was bought by TalkTalk earlier this year, which means TalkTalk TV subscribers now have access to the same content through their YouView boxes, alongside Netflix and pay TV channels including Sky Sports.
