TV Player streams Freeview channels on your phone and tablet

TVPlayer is a new app that gives you a Freeview+ experience on your phone or tablet, blending streams from BBC One, ITV1 and Channel 4.

Channels can be streamed on cellular (3G or 4G) connections as well as via WiFi and you can also browse the now and next programme guide while watching another. Adaptive streaming means if your connection fluctates you should be able to continue viewing uninterrupted.

The TVPlayer app has been designed so that it enables users to scroll through the UK’s most watched channels by channel or genre, including Entertainment, Kids, Music, Desi and News.

A new app has been launched that will let TV viewers watch all Freeview channels on their smartphone or tablet.

Software firm Simplestream has developed the app, called TVPlayer. In addition to the Freeview channels, it also features channels such as Bloomberg and Sony SAB. It said that more channels would be coming to the platform later in the year.

The app is currently ad supported but the firm hasn’t yet given details of an ad-free version and is available via the iTunes Store, Google Play and Amazon Apps

Simplestream also powers Box TV, which is a streaming service that brings the likes of Magic, Kiss, Heat and Kerrang! among others to the web, phones and tablets.

The firm launched last December a pair of apps which stream TV music channels like 4Music and Smash Hits to iOS and Android devices.
