The BBC is working on ‘second screen’ apps for phones and tablets, for a number of its programmes, starting with the Antiques Roadshow.
The app will let viewers guess the value of items featured in the show and provide links to extra background information on items.
Speaking at the Connected TV World Summit last week, Victoria Jaye, head of IPTV and TV online content at the BBC announced that the Antiques Roadshow would be the first of many companion apps made by the BBC over the next 18 months: “Antiques Roadshow is a perfect series to develop a companion experience around. We’re tapping into existing audience behaviour – viewers have been shouting at their TV screens for years, guessing the value of items featured in the programme.”
As well as tablet and mobile apps, there’ll be desktop/PC apps as well as red button services.
The Antiques Roadshow app will be launching this September in time for the new series.
