BBC Sport kicks off on Roku in the UK

The BBC Sport app has arrived in the Roku Channel Store just in time for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The service will be available on Roku mini streamers including the Roku 3 and its recently launched Roku Streaming Stick

Roku users will be able to watch a shedload of content including Formula 1 racing, cycling, cricket, tennis, golf and others. There is also regional content for England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

The Sporting Life: The BBC Sport app is now available from the Roku Channel Store

Ed Lee, vice president of Content Acquisition at Roku said “Hundreds of videos are available and users can filter by sport to find the content they want to watch, including a dedicated filter option for the upcoming World Cup.

“This new addition brings a wide range of content for sports fans, including must-see sports events that can be watched live or on catch-up.”

Live coverage of 31 of the World Cup games will able to to stream from the BBC Sport app. As well as this, viewers will be able to tap into news, analysis, match stats and live scores from the tournament.

Earlier this month, the BBC revealed its plans to make Brazil 2014 the biggest world cup ever, promising 24/7 catch up coverage. Viewers will be able to watch matches at a time that suits them owing to the four-hour time difference between the UK and Brazil.

Gary Lineker will helm the BBC’s World Cup TV coverage and will be joined by former England captain Rio Ferdinand, France World Cup winner Thierry Henry and AC Milan coach and former Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

The dedicated BBC Sport app can be found in the Roku Channel Store to download. The BBC Sport app has not yet arrived on the Now TV Box, which has access to a separate Roku Channel Store.
