BT adds 21 internet TV channels to the YouView Guide

BT has added 21 live streaming internet TV channels to the YouView guide as it beefs up its pay-TV offering.

The new entertainment and documentary channels went live on August 1 when BT Sport launched, and are  listed from channel number 400 up in the YouView programme guide, alongside other Freeview and Freeview HD channels.

Alex Green, director of TV for BT, said: “These new channels are currently only available via BT on the YouView EPG. We’re adding 18 extra channels, as well as our own BT Sport 1 and 2 and ESPN channels in SD and HD.

The new BT channels are only available to BT YouView customers with BT Infinity fibre broadband, and the TV Essential Extra pack, for £7/month.

TalkTalk is currently testing a similar YouView guide upgrade for its customers, which will see channels such as Sky1 and Sky Living arrive on the YouView guide for TalkTalk customers.

BT’s YouView box, made by Humax, cannot currently pause, record or rewind from internet-streaming TV channels, but neither does the TalkTalk YouView box made by Huawei.

YouView has asked Digital UK to double the size of the internet TV channel section to 200 channels, because TalkTalk and BT expect to add at least 130 new channels in the coming year.

In addition to BT Sport and ESPN, the full BT TV entertainment line-up is:
