BT Sport has successfully managed to score 2.5 million customers since its launch in August last year.
The latest quarterly figures from BT don’t reveal how many of the 2.5 million comes from Sky, Virgin or BT TV customers.
BT chief executive Gavin Patterson said: “Our direct BT Sport customer base passed 2.5 million in the quarter and helped to support 6 per cent revenue growth in our Consumer business.

As Virgin TV XL customers get BT Sport HD bunged in for free, they’re not represented in this figures. Virgin TV XL accounts for roughly an extra 2 million customers.
BT Sport broadcast a number of high profile matches over the holiday season, including West Ham v Arsenal, Manchester City v Liverpool and Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur.
By not breaking down the BT Sport numbers it’s impossible to tell how many of the 53,000 new BT TV customers signed up specifically for the football. The total number of customers now stands at 956,000 which sees BT TV inching closer to its first million.
As well as giving customers BT Sport, BT TV customers can sign up for Sky Movies, Extra TV channels (including National Geographic HD and Cartoon Network) and the option to rent movies from Curzon on Demand.
BT TV currently offers customers a BT YouView box as standard alongside BT Broadband (TV Essential) and the fibre-based BT Infinity services (TV Entertainment). Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 are only available to BT customers via a BT Vision+ box with a BT Infinity broadband connection.
TV Essential (£15/month) lets you access Sky Movies on demand and BT Sport 1 and BT Sport 2 as extras. TV Entertainment (£20/month) lets you add HD channels, kids channels, all 11 Sky Movies channels, Sky Sports 1 and 2, BT Sport 1 and 2 and ESPN.
Both the YouView and BT Vision-based offerings give you access to the same digital terrestrial channels that you’d get on Freeview.
Rumours of a new BT-branded YouView box have surfaced, although BT has yet to officially announce anything.
