Direct Save takes on Plusnet and TalkTalk with £14.75 superfast broadband deal: How cheap is that?

Budget ISP Direct Save Telecom has taken the wraps off of its latest low-cost broadband offer – up to 38Mbps broadband for £14.75/month. 

The 18 month deal sees customers getting a free wireless router and unlimited calls to UK landlines at weekends alongside an FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet)-based service. 

You’ll also need to pay line rental, which costs either £16.75/month for the standard rate, or £132/year, which is equivalent to paying £11/month. With the standard cost of line rental added, Direct Save’s up to 38Mbps deal works out at £31.50/month.

TalkTalk’s cheapest FTTC – SimplyBroadband with Fibre – deal sees you paying £13.50/month plus £16.70/month for standard line rental and £50 for connection. This gets you an up to 38Mbps broadband service, unlimited downloads and a free wireless Super Router (plus £5.99 for postage). 

You don’t get any landline calls bundled with this deal, but unlike Direct Save, there’s no traffic shaping. TalkTalk also gives you the option of paying for a year’s line rental up front – £180.36 – or the standard rate, in which case your total monthly fee comes to £30.20/month. 

Plusnet’s entry-level FTTC bundle – Unlimited Fibre with evening and weekend calls – costs £14.99/month for up to 38Mbps, unlimited downloads, free connection and a free wireless router (£5.99 for postage).  

The standard rate of Plusnet line rental is £15.95/month, which means you’d normally pay £30.44/month. If you want, you can cough up for 12 months of line rental up front. This sees you paying £155.88 – equivalent to a monthly price of £12.99 – instead of the usual rate.
