Drama descends on Freeview channel 20: Mr Darcy arrives July 8

Drama, the forthcoming UKTV Freeview channel, will arrive on channel 20 on July 8.

This will see G.O.L.D. the Top Up TV channel, shifting to Freeview channel 26 and Home moving even further down to channel 54. Dave ja vu, contrary to previous rumours, will be staying right where it is on Freeview channel 25.

‘Pedal faster girls or we’ll miss Mr. Darcy!’

Drama is UKTV’s latest channel and will specialise in serving up the best of modern and classic British TV drama. As well as the likes of Pride and Prejudice and Sharpe there’s the more recent Call the Midwife

UKTV Controller Emma Tennant, said: “Drama is targeted at a different audience demographic than our other highly successful free-to-air channels, Dave, Yesterday and Really. The channel is aimed at people who simply love drama and want to watch critically-acclaimed shows that have absolutely defined the landscape of British television.”

‘Well hello ladies…’

As for Drama’s prominence in the Freeview programme guide, UKTV is obviously expecting great things. A UKTV spokesperson told us:

“UKTV periodically reviews the ordering of its channels to ensure the order of channels best matches viewer expectations and preferences.”

Drama is a new channel debuting on Freeview. There’s no word yet as to when or indeed if Drama will be landing on Sky, Virgin Media, Freesat or any other TV platform. Likewise, there’s also no word yet of a Drama On Demand yet in the same vein as UKTV’s Dave On Demand app but if the channel is successful as UKTV is anticipating then this could change.
