EE launches first 150Mbps portable 4G WiFi MiFi hotspot

EE has launched its first 4G-enabled mobile WiFi, or ‘MiFi’ device, the Huawei E5776.

This high-speed portable device is available now on the 4GEE mobile broadband plans, starting at £12.99/month with 1GB of data on a 24 month plan.

Those who want a bit more data to munch through can sign up for 3GB, 5GB and 8GB plans costing £15.99/month, £20.99/month and £25.99/month respectively, all on 24 month deals. All EE 4G mobile broadband plans come with the first month free.

This little device is the first ‘CAT 4’ certified device, meaning that top download speeds available clock in at 150Mbps. Previous generation CAT 3 devices could only manage top speeds of 100Mbps.

Eagle-eyed readers will have spotted that EE’s 4G speeds are set to rocket up to 80Mbps this summer. While 4GEE users on the move are unlikely to hit the touted top download speed of 80Mbps all the time, it’s interesting that EE are introducing WiFi devices capable of going faster than 100Mbps on 2-year long contracts.

Reading between the lines somewhat, this means that EE is thinking of upping its 4G speeds to triple figures at some point in the near future.
