Freesat Freetime catch-up coming to Vestel smart TVs and boxes

Freesat has announced that its Freetime catch-up service will be coming to Vestel smart TVs and set-top boxes.

Vestel is the latest manufacturer to get on board with Freetime, an integrated TV and streaming service that lets Freesat viewers quickly catch up on missed shows.

Humax launched the first Freetime boxes in 2012 and more recently, Panasonic, which recently unveiled a 4K Ultra HD TV with Freetime and Freeview built in.

Emma Scott, Freesat’s managing director, commented: “We are extremely pleased to be able to announce today’s partnership with Vestel, which further builds on the strong momentum for our award-winning Freetime service.

“This is an exciting time for us – we announced the Freetime Panasonic Viera TVs range last month and we look forward to extending our reach further with Vestel. Through the new agreement, viewers will be able to enjoy Freetime on a whole new range of leading brands.”

The Vestel products will also feature Showcase, a ‘best of Freesat’ page that serves up highlights, reminders of upcoming shows and links to popular programmes available on catch-up.

Vestel is a company perhaps best known for white labelling its products, working with brands like Argos, Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s. This meaning you could start to see Freetime TVs and set-top boxes hit the shelves under other names while you’re doing the weekly food shop.

Iskender Diker, commercial director at Vestel said: “The television market needs a free smart TV platform that retailers can buy to sell under their own brands. The own brand TV market represents more than 50 per cent of the UK TV market, which makes this partnership between Freesat and Vestel so vitally important.

“Retailers need to be able to sell high quality TV’s with great TV services like those offered by Freesat. Consumers are quite savvy – they don’t need to pay for what’s free.”

As well as offering customers subscription free HD TV, Freesat customers can also set and manage recordings with the Freesat App for iOS

Freetime lets you watch missed shows from the last seven days, pulling in content from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5. The Freesat App also lets you launch programmes from all four players and watch shows on your iPhone and iPad.
