Gigaclear is planning to roll out 1Gbps broadband to 5,000 Northamptonshire homes.
The project will see residents able to order a number of broadband services from Gigaclear ranging from an ‘entry level’ 50Mbps service all the way up to a gigabit (1,000Mbps) product.
Unlimited downloads are included as standard and all of Gigaclear’s services are symmetrical, meaning the download and upload speeds are the same.
Matthew Hare, Chief Executive, Gigaclear said: “Gigaclear is going to transform the connected lives of members of Northamptonshire communities as we have done in other counties with our ultrafast pure fibre broadband, putting these homes and businesses into the best-connected 1 per cent worldwide.”
Gigaclear’s business model specifically targets areas which aren’t due to receive superfast broadband from the many BDUK (Broadband Delivery for the UK) projects or commercial network expansion from BT, Virgin Media or other ISPs.
The local BDUK project Superfast Northamptonshire will see 90 per cent of properties across the county able to order services providing download speeds of at least 25Mbps. Gigaclear’s entry level product offers download and upload speeds of 50Mbps.
Councillor Andre Gonzalez de Savage, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Public Protection, Northamptonshire County Council said: “The villages Gigaclear will be rolling out to aren’t part of any other commercial or subsidised plans and it is fantastic that they will be bringing pure fibre broadband to the county at no cost to the taxpayer. ”
Gigaclear’s Northamptonshire network is expected to be finished by 2018 while Superfast Northamptonshire should be done by 2017.
West Haddon and King’s Cliffe will be the first two areas to get connected to Gigaclear’s new network. Construction is expected to begin at the end of this year, with Apethorpe, Aynho, Coton, Croughton, Guilsborough and Ravensthorpe to be connected later.
Customers who want Gigaclear to come to their neck of the woods need to get in touch with the company and demonstrate sufficient interest. If a community or business park is close enough to national fibre backbone and there’s a guaranteed return on investment, Gigaclear’s spades should start hitting the ground.
The company operates nine networks across the UK and has announced plans to raise £180 million on the AIM (Alternative Investment Market) stock exchange.
