Hyperoptic lights up first homes in Cardiff with gigabit fibre broadband

Select properties in Cardiff are now able to connect to 1,000Mbps broadband thanks to gigabit fibre provider Hyperoptic.

The London-based full fibre ISP announced back in February that it would be bringing its wares to the Welsh capital, letting customers connect to speeds 20Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gbps (1,000Mbps).

The Hayes Apartments new build estate is the first place in Cardiff to be connected to Hyperoptic’s pure fibre network, following high demand from the development’s residents.

Marc Cole, Resident, Hayes Apartments: “I have been counting down the days to getting hyperfast connectivity from Hyperoptic. It just knocks the socks off the competition and means that I don’t have to compromise my personal and professional online needs.

“One thing’s for sure – now that I have the fastest broadband in the UK, I won’t be moving elsewhere for a very long time!”

It’s a sentiment often heard from Hyperoptic customers that once they’ve experienced the benefits of a full fibre connection, they couldn’t look back.

As Hyperoptic’s connections are pure FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) lines speeds don’t degrade over distances as they do with superfast FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) which uses a copper line to complete its last mile.

The superior technology Hyperoptic uses also means it can offer symmetrical services, meaning on its champagne 1Gbps service you can get up to 1,000Mbps download and upload speeds.

That said, Hyperoptic’s entry level product, which costs £12.50/month, gives you top download speeds of 20Mbps and upload speeds of 1Mbps. Both the 100Mbps (£25/month) and 1Gbps (£50/month) services offer the same speeds down and up.

Dana Tobak, Managing Director, Hyperoptic: “Cardiff is a key city for Hyperoptic, and we have been really encouraged by the demand and interest shown by Cardiff residents. We are committed to giving residents in Cardiff a broadband service that they can depend upon, in terms of speed and online experience.”

Hyperoptic will be investing £4 million in Cardiff over the next five years as it continues its plan to have half a million customers signed up by 2018

Initially only available in certain parts of London, Hyperoptic has since announced intentions to come to Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Reading and Bristol as well as Cardiff.

Hyperoptic mainly targets new apartments, developments and so-called MDUs (Multi Dwelling Units) in big cities. Hyperoptic prioritises network expansion based on consumer demand and actively encourages would-be customers to sign up and become brand evangelists for the company.

As well as the seven cities above, Hyperoptic is due to bring gigabit broadband to three other UK cities which it’s due to announce by the end of the year.
