John Lewis own-brand DSL broadband, fibre and phone packages

Upmarket department store John Lewis has launched its own-brand ADSL and fibre-to-the-cabinet broadband and phone packages.

John Lewis broadband starts at £11/month for up-to-16Mbps ADSL (average 5.6Mbps) and runs to £25/month for up-to-38Mbps fibre.

There’s a flat rate £13.50 line rental across the range, which includes evening and weekend calls to UK landlines.

It includes 24-hour freephone UK customer support and there are no activation fees, but with a flat fee on each tier, it doesn’t support ‘pay-what-you-get’ pricing.

Adam Brown, John Lewis’s telecoms manager, said: “This move complements the range of services and products we offer – over 80 per cent of all our consumer electronics sales are WiFi enabled and we know our customers want the same honest and trustworthy experience from their internet provision as they would expect from any product they buy from us.

“John Lewis broadband gives customers an upfront and transparent price on a range of broadband and phone packages with no hidden terms and conditions, a simple 12-month contract with no hidden catches and the excellent customer service that we are renowned for.”

Including line rental with a 12-month contract, the packages are:

  • Standard Broadband: up-to-16Mbps ADSL2+ with 20GB monthly download allowance, £24.50/month.
  • Unlimited Broadband: up-to-16Mbps ADSL2+ with unlimited monthly download allowance, £31.50/month.
  • Fibre Broadband: up-to-38Mbps ADSL2+ with 100GB monthly download allowance, £38.50/month.

All customers get BullGuard PC security software for one PC, or there are savings on Intego security software for Mac users.

There’s a £5/GB charge for going over your monthly download allowance – downloads from midnight-8am don’t count towards your limit.

All services are subject to traffic management at peak times, but the John Lewis Broadband FAQ includes a detailed explanation of how and when it’s applied.

DSL broadband (Standard and Unlimited) comes with a Technicolour TG585N modem/router with four Ethernet ports, firewall and WiFi N wireless networking, plus two ADSL microfilters for phone sockets.
